Life Skills Session: Bereavement – A Supportive and Meaningful Afternoon

Last week, Eastleigh Borough & Romsey Mencap hosted a Life Skills session focused on Bereavement at Pavilion on the Park, welcoming around 20 attendees including members and support workers.

The session was delivered by Simon Says, who provided a gentle and accessible introduction to bereavement. They explored what it can feel like when someone dies and how grief can change over time, helping attendees to better understand their own emotions.

A particularly powerful part of the session was when attendees were invited to share their own experiences. Many people chose to speak about a special person – or in some cases, a beloved pet – that they had lost. These moments were emotional, with tears and hugs shared, but also highlighted the strength and compassion within the group. Everyone showed genuine care and support for one another.

The session concluded with a creative activity, where attendees made memory jars. This provided an opportunity to reflect in a positive way, and the atmosphere shifted to one of laughter and connection as people enjoyed the activity together.

Lunch was also provided and enjoyed by all, helping to create a relaxed and welcoming environment throughout the session.

This session demonstrated the importance of providing safe spaces for people to explore difficult topics, and we are incredibly proud of how our members supported one another.

Great thanks to The National Lottery for helping to fund these sessions, and to Purple Oaks Support for joining us.
